I work part-time at an Adult Gated Community, Desert Cove, where there are over 500 residents. I'm happy to see that dogs are very much loved as over 80 dogs reside there. So for a Christmas treat for the "Desert Doggies", I found a fool-proof doggie biscuit recipe and whipped up a batch this weekend. I used wholesome ingredients and had my trusty dog Oscar on hand for taste testing duty.
I gave them the festive touch by wrapping them up and putting on tags to let the residents know what the ingredients are. (in case their pooches have any allergies) Even nibbled on one - for quality control purposes of course. Not bad!
Here is the simple recipe if you're looking to give some holiday cheer to the dogs in your life.
INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour 1/2 cup canola oil and 1/2 cup water
1/2 cup all-purpose flour 2 eggs
1/2 cup cornmeal 3 tablespoons peanut butter
1/2 cups rolled oats 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
Directions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
- Mix together whole-wheat flour, all-purpose flour, cornmeal and oats. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and gradually pour in water, oil, eggs, peanut butter and vanilla. Mix well.
- On a flat surface use a rolling pin to roll out the dough. Cut the dough into dog biscuit shapes using a cookie cutter. Place the biscuits onto the prepared cookie sheet.
- Bake the cookies for 20 minutes. After the biscuits have cooked 20 minutes turn off the oven off but let the biscuits remain inside the oven for another 20 minutes to harden.
Bone appetit!
